Job description
Role overview
This position sits within the Money Laundering Unit of the Financial and Cyber Crime Group and supports the Queensland Police Service’s strategic goals through specialist forensic accounting work. The role focuses on criminal and related matters, including major and organised crime investigations, while also contributing to policy, procedures, and risk management.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out detailed financial investigations involving businesses, organisations, and individuals, and provide law enforcement guidance based on the findings.
- Prepare and deliver verbal or written updates on complex analysis, particularly where financial transactions are involved.
- Help develop, refine, and put into practice policies, procedures, and analytical methods that strengthen financial analysis capability.
- Support interviews and court or tribunal matters in an advisory role, especially on financial issues.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders, including the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and other government agencies, to improve service outcomes.
- Manage priorities effectively and respond to shifting deadlines and competing demands in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Role requirements
Candidates need a degree in Commerce or Accounting from a recognised tertiary institution, or an equivalent qualification, along with one of the following: membership of CPA Australia and completion of the CPA program, or membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants plus completion of that body’s professional year.
Additional conditions
- Before appointment, the preferred candidate or candidates must complete psychometric testing.
- The work may involve exposure to graphic and sensitive written, visual, and audio material.
- The appointee may be asked to work in any Group or Unit and at any Brisbane metropolitan location where Crime Command operates.
- Negative Vetting 1 clearance must be obtained within six months of starting.
- Applications will stay active for 12 months.
