About Queensland Government Air
Queensland Government Air (QGAir) is part of the Queensland Police Service Aviation Capability Group and delivers government aviation support across Queensland. Its fleet operates in both rotary-wing and fixed-wing roles, backing police and partner agencies in routine duties as well as urgent and emergency response work. The organisation places strong emphasis on safety, operational efficiency and continuous improvement in aviation services.
Role overview
We are looking for experienced Aircrew Officers to join the rotary-wing team in Townsville. In this role, you will support the pilot during aeromedical missions, search and rescue tasks, emergency response work, counter-disaster operations and other government support assignments. Your flying background will help you contribute effectively as part of the aircraft crew while carrying out primary rescues, inter-hospital transfers and disaster response activities alongside frontline Queensland Government services.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the pilot during aeromedical, rescue, emergency and disaster-relief flights.
- Support primary rescue missions and secondary transfers between hospitals.
- Work as part of the aircraft crew to deliver government support operations.
- Contribute to search and rescue and other frontline response activity.
- Operate safely and effectively within a high-performance rotary-wing team.

Mandatory requirements
- Dangerous Goods Awareness Training.
- Crew Resource Management or Human Factors Training.
- At least 100 logged hours of Night Vision Imaging System aircrew member experience.
- Current CASA Aviation Class 2 Medical Certificate.
- Winch Endorsement from an approved Training and Checking Organisation.
- AVI40225 Certificate IV in Airborne Operations, or an equivalent qualification, with these elective units completed: conduct winching operations, perform non-pilot cockpit duties, conduct night vision imaging system operations, and conduct helicopter landing site and unprepared helicopter landing site operations.
- Aeronautical Radio Operators Certificate, including Level 6 English Language Proficiency.
Highly desirable experience
- AW139 type endorsement with relevant experience on the aircraft.
- Instrument Flight Rules aircrew officer Front Left Hand Seat experience.
- Helicopter Underwater Escape Training.
- Emergency Breathing Systems training.
- Search and rescue or emergency medical services experience on AW139.
Special conditions
Before appointment, applicants must pass the Aircrew Officer physical fitness test and repeat it every year thereafter. Accepted assessment options are: a 400-metre swim completed in under 10 minutes; the Rockport Fitness Walk Test over 1.6 km with at least a “Good” result on the Rockport calculator; or a 2.4 km run with at least a “Good” result on the ExRx.net Distance Run calculator.
