Intern, Individual Insolvency & Debt Repayment Scheme Division

About the Role

This internship sits within the Individual Insolvency & Debt Repayment Scheme Division (IIDRSD) under the Insolvency & Public Trustee’s Office (IPTO). The intern will support work related to either the Debt Repayment Scheme or the Adjudication function, depending on assignment.

Debt Repayment Scheme Responsibilities

• Review applications from debtors seeking placement under the Debt Repayment Scheme (DRS).
• Go through debtor-submitted documents and check the scope of assets and liabilities.
• Help organise and run meetings of creditors to work out repayment plans.
• Respond to both general and case-based questions from debtors and creditors.
• Support DRS officers in assessing cases that may end because the plan is completed, has failed, or is no longer suitable for DRS.

Adjudication Responsibilities

• Check whether creditor claims filed in bankruptcy matters are valid.
• Communicate with creditors, lawyers, and/or bankrupts to request extra information or supporting documents for claims made against the bankruptcy estate, including helping to resolve disputes that arise during Proof of Debt review.
• Issue statutory rejection notices to creditors whose claims are not accepted by the Official Assignee.
• Carry out initial adjudication work for case classification and for the Official Assignee’s asset recovery efforts.
• Review creditors’ requests to submit Proof of Debt after the statutory deadline has passed.
• Work with solicitors on suits, counterclaims, contingent claims, and claims where damages are not yet quantified.

The role is suited to interns who are available to work full-time and can begin as soon as possible.
