Job description

Opportunity Overview

Hitachi Energy Transformers is searching for a forward-thinking and analytically gifted Innovation Technology Scouting Lead to guide the identification, evaluation, and alignment of emerging technologies with business objectives across the transformer value chain globally.

In this critical role, you will serve as the company's innovation radar, continuously monitoring ecosystem changes and technology shifts to transform early signals into actionable insights that support R&D, portfolio management, and top-level strategic decisions.

Embedded in the Global Innovation Organization, you will work collaboratively with R&D, Product Management, Strategy, Business Development, and external innovation partners including startups, scale-ups, and research institutions. The insights you generate will steer initial technology selections, pilot projects, collaborations, and long-term research investments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and continuously update comprehensive global technology landscapes, including maturity mappings, benchmarking assessments, and ecosystem summaries to support strategic and portfolio decisions.
  • Create and deliver structured intelligence on technology trends, competitor innovation activities, and ecosystem advancements to aid early strategic evaluations.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders by conducting workshops, interviews, and discovery sessions to gather business and R&D requirements, ensuring alignment of scouting priorities with future roadmaps.
  • Establish and manage detailed scouting databases covering startups, technologies, research alliances, and suppliers relevant to the transformer sector.
  • Design and implement frameworks for technology assessment, including scoring models, due diligence procedures, and maturity risk evaluations.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, Product Management, Strategy, and Business Development teams to translate scouting insights into pilot initiatives and validated business opportunities.
  • Manage relationships with global scouting collaborators such as consulting agencies, venture scouts, accelerators, and venture capitalists, ensuring quality outputs, monitoring KPIs, and extracting valuable insights.
  • Facilitate collaboration between internal teams and external innovators through matchmaking sessions, discovery conversations, and exploration workshops.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess a degree in Innovation Management, Engineering, Business Innovation, Technology Strategy, or a closely related discipline.
  • Bring at least 5 years of professional experience in technology scouting, innovation management, market intelligence, venture-client engagement, or similar roles.
  • Have a deep understanding of emerging technologies pertinent to energy, digital transformation, industrial systems, or related fields.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills capable of deciphering complex data, synthesizing critical insights, and differentiating significant signals from background noise.
  • Experience in evaluating nascent technologies, including assessing their maturity and associated risks.
  • Familiar with structured scouting tools, innovation databases, and evaluation methodologies.
  • Comfortable operating within international, matrix-structured organizations and managing diverse stakeholders effectively.
  • Exhibit a genuine passion for open innovation, technology ecosystems, and influencing decisions with a futuristic perspective.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Agreement under collective labor arrangements and flexible work schedules.
  • Health care and wellness allowances to support employee wellbeing.
  • Robust career advancement opportunities both within Hitachi Energy in Sweden and worldwide.
  • Access to extensive training and development programs.
  • An inclusive, multicultural environment with over 70 nationalities represented in Sweden.
