Job description
About the Organisation
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the UK’s biggest healthcare employers, with around 40,000 people working across clinical and non-clinical services. It provides acute hospital, primary care, community, and mental health services to more than 1.15 million local residents, and to a wider population of about 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The Role
The West of Scotland Innovation team is funded by the Scottish Government and operates from a hub at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, while serving the wider region. The team works closely with the Departments of Research, Development & Clinical Innovation and eHealth for line management.
This post is focused on managing and delivering a broad portfolio of innovation projects. The work uses West of Scotland Health Boards as testing environments and includes high-profile national exemplar initiatives. The position will be part of the West of Scotland regional hub.
Working Pattern, Location and Contract
- This is a full-time role based on 36 hours per week, normally worked Monday to Friday, with flexibility needed from time to time to meet project demands.
- The role is located at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
- The appointment is fixed term for 2 years.
Key Duties
The successful candidate will work with the NHSGGC Innovation team to plan, coordinate and deliver agreed open collaboration projects across the West of Scotland, including partnership work with innovation hubs in the North of Scotland and East of Scotland.
The role will involve shaping and delivering a varied mix of data-led and medical device projects within agreed deadlines and budgets, while maintaining strong collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve open collaboration goals.
You will also support the development and commercialisation of ideas emerging from the collaboration process through project leadership, commercial due diligence, contract discussions, and identification of suitable translational funding routes. In addition, the post-holder will provide cover for other team members when needed to support national innovation projects being delivered in the West region.
Requirements
- A degree in a business-related discipline, or an equivalent qualification, together with a postgraduate diploma or qualification in project management such as PRINCE2, or relevant equivalent experience.
- Practical knowledge of how health services are delivered.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders on service redesign or improvement work.
- Background in working at a strategic or managerial level within the NHS.
- Strong people management capability.
- Understanding of current evidence and policy relevant to the role.
Eligibility and Sponsorship
All appointments will be checked for sponsorship eligibility under current Home Office rules. A Certificate of Sponsorship can only be issued where the relevant requirements are met.
Benefits
- At least 27 days of annual leave, rising with service, plus public holidays.
- Access to the NHS Pension Scheme, including life insurance cover.
- Salary sacrifice car benefit arrangement.
- Learning and development support, including study bursaries, online learning, and classroom-based training.
- Enhanced pay for public holiday working.
- Discounts on a broad range of products and services.
- Confidential employee help and support, including counselling and psychological therapies.
- Employee Assistance Programme.
- Cycle to Work Scheme.
- Bursary scheme and wider development opportunities.
