Job description

About the opportunity

Whānau Āwhina Plunket is looking for a motivated, community-minded Injury Prevention Coordinator to join its Community Services team in the Bay of Plenty. The role supports child safety and injury prevention work that helps families thrive, strengthens local communities, and improves outcomes for tamariki across Aotearoa.

You will work with whānau, volunteers, community partners, and clinical and community teams to deliver injury prevention programmes, share practical guidance, and raise awareness of child safety. A key part of the role is supporting child restraint installation services, running community education sessions, and developing trusted relationships with stakeholders to improve access to support, especially for Māori, Pacific, and communities facing inequities.

This is a fixed-term, full-time role of 35 hours per week, commencing as soon as possible and ending on 25 June 2027. The position blends community-based delivery with virtual coordination, stakeholder engagement, and forward planning, so no two days will be the same.

What success looks like

  • Working closely with families and communities to promote safer environments for children.
  • Coordinating and delivering injury prevention initiatives across the region.
  • Providing education, practical support, and child safety messaging.
  • Building strong partnerships with key stakeholders and local groups.
  • Supporting equitable outcomes through culturally responsive and pro-equity practice.
  • Contributing positively to team delivery while managing your own workload.

About you

You are someone who enjoys connecting with people, sharing knowledge, and helping communities achieve better outcomes for children. You are organised, adaptable, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities while working both independently and collaboratively.

Skills and experience needed

  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships across diverse communities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience presenting information, facilitating sessions, or engaging groups.
  • Confidence working independently while maintaining active stakeholder relationships.
  • Good planning, organisation, and time management capability.
  • A continuous improvement mindset focused on quality service.
  • Understanding of local communities and the ability to work across different settings.
  • A full New Zealand driver licence and willingness to travel around the region.
  • Child Restraint Technician qualification, or the ability to obtain it within three months of starting.

Additional experience valued

Experience working with Māori, Pacific, and other priority communities would be especially beneficial. Familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it informs everyday practice is also highly desirable.

What we offer

  • The chance to contribute to better outcomes for tamariki and whānau throughout Aotearoa.
  • A values-led environment with a strong focus on equity and community wellbeing.
  • Ongoing professional learning and development opportunities.
  • Retail discounts and employee support benefits through the employee assistance programme.
  • A supportive, collaborative team culture.
  • Flexible working arrangements where operational needs allow.
