Role Overview
The Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Lead is accountable for the performance, protection, dependability, and ongoing improvement of industrial control systems that support essential infrastructure at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. This position provides hands-on technical leadership for SCADA, PLC, and building automation environments used across power generation and distribution, water and wastewater services, fuel systems, HVAC, and other mission-critical utilities. The role also acts as the main point of authority for ICS design, cybersecurity, compliance, and end-to-end lifecycle oversight.
Leadership and Team Management
- Direct, coach, and develop ICS/HVAC control technicians.
- Plan day-to-day assignments, organize shift coverage, and rank work orders by urgency.
- Carry out performance reviews and make sure safety and quality expectations are followed.
- Work closely with base civil engineering, operations, and IT/cybersecurity personnel.
Technical Responsibilities
- Manage the operation and upkeep of HVAC controls, BAS, and SCADA systems.
- Keep critical systems running without interruption for data centers, command facilities, aircraft support buildings, and other essential sites.
- Investigate advanced control-system faults and lead troubleshooting and remediation efforts.
- Examine and sign off on control logic, operating sequences, and system changes.
- Oversee upgrades, capacity expansions, and the addition of new equipment into existing systems.
- Maintain technical records, network diagrams, and equipment inventories.
- Apply access control, configuration control, and change-management procedures.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to OSHA, U.S. Air Force, and host-nation safety requirements.
- Perform inspections, review preventive maintenance work, and complete quality audits.
- Support compliance with environmental, energy-management, and sustainability obligations.
Reporting and Coordination
- Prepare technical documentation, maintenance records, and performance reports.
- Liaise with vendors, contractors, and equipment manufacturers as needed.
- Provide emergency support and after-hours troubleshooting when required.
Education, Experience, and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. The role calls for at least five years of specialized experience in industrial control systems, along with Master Operator Training in Building Automation Systems. Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and BAS platforms is essential. Experience in secure, mission-critical, or industrial settings is also expected.
Applicants must hold a valid U.S. Driver’s License. A valid U.S. Passport is preferred. The selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Qatar residency visa. The position requires the ability to work in harsh environmental conditions, including dust and high heat, and to tolerate long work hours, weather exposure, and hazardous conditions.
Travel and Clearance
This assignment involves 100% overseas deployment. A DoD Secret Clearance is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
