About the Role
The Thunder Bay Sawmill, located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, welcomes applications for the position of Human Resources Manager in a full-time, permanent capacity. This role offers an opportunity to shape a culture of high performance by acting as a key driver of HR initiatives, fostering continuous improvement, and coaching team members toward professional and organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a central resource for Operations Management and Supervisors on labour relations matters.
- Oversee all hiring and recruitment efforts for the Thunder Bay Sawmill facility.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of HR policies, procedures, and certification programs.
- Handle workforce planning, scheduling, and manpower management across the sawmill.
- Advise on progressive workplace practices and labor contract administration.
- Research and support grievance resolution processes.
- Work closely with payroll to ensure accurate and compliant processes.
- Facilitate employee development systems, including training, disability management, and return-to-work programs.
Candidate Profile
- A bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related discipline is preferred.
- 5–7 years of hands-on HR experience, ideally in a unionized, industrial setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, communicate across organizational levels, and quickly adapt to change.
- Strong analytical abilities and decisiveness, even in ambiguous or high-pressure circumstances.
- Exceptional project and time management skills with multitasking capabilities.
- Proficient in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent facilitation and conflict resolution capabilities.
- Thorough knowledge of federal and provincial employment regulations.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: CAD 105,000–125,000 annually, tailored to background and experience.

- This is a replacement position within a supportive team reporting to the Regional HR Manager for Ontario Wood Products, with an indirect line to the Thunder Bay Sawmill Manager.
