Job description

Overview

We are seeking a driven and experienced HR Business Partner to join the People & Organisational Development Directorate of a major NHS Trust. This role offers a dynamic, fast-paced environment where no two days are alike, operating at the core of an organisation serving thousands of staff and delivering essential community services in Lancashire & South Cumbria.

Key Functions

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and managers across clinical networks.
  • Lead and manage complex employee relations issues, workforce challenges, and high-risk cases.
  • Take an active role in organisational change, workforce transformation, and related consultations.
  • Champion a fair, just, and learning workplace culture in collaboration with staff side representatives.
  • Contribute to workforce planning, performance measurement, and analysis of people metrics.
  • Support initiatives focused on wellbeing, attendance management, and employee engagement.
  • Coach and build managerial capabilities for strong people management.
  • Provide leadership and development oversight for HR Advisors within the team.

Work Environment and Candidate Profile

This role requires the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, dynamic setting with multiple competing priorities. Candidates with substantial operational HR experience, demonstrating confidence and autonomy, will excel. There is also scope for applicants seeking developmental growth; individuals with strong operational HR expertise ready to progress to Band 7 level but still pursuing a postgraduate HR qualification (Diploma or CIPD) may start at Band 6 with supported progression upon qualification completion.

Diversity and Inclusion

The organisation values diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities it serves. Applications from underrepresented groups are especially welcomed. Experience living with, or connected to, relevant mental health or learning disability services is regarded as an asset for authenticity in service delivery.

Flexible Working and Wellbeing

Flexible work patterns such as part-time, term-time, compressed hours, and flexi-time are considered to maintain a positive work-life balance, promoting health and wellbeing. Extensive wellbeing resources support employees both in and outside work.
