Job description

Role overview

Daniels Health is expanding its medical waste processing sites and field operations, and this position is designed to support that growth across Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. The company works with healthcare organizations to provide safer and more sustainable medical waste solutions, so this role contributes directly to better patient care, safer workplaces, and environmental responsibility.

As an HR Business Partner, you will work closely with hourly field service and operations teams, along with their leaders, to strengthen engagement, reinforce culture, and ensure compliance with labor laws and wage-and-hour rules. This is a hybrid position with three days on site, and it includes regular regional travel plus occasional overnight trips.

The opportunity is well suited to someone who enjoys fast-moving operational environments and wants to shape people strategy in a growing, mission-driven business.

Key responsibilities

  • Advise leaders on employee relations and industrial relations matters, with particular attention to labor law and wage-and-hour compliance.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding workflows, including orientation for new hires and clear communication of benefits for a primarily hourly workforce.
  • Coach supervisors and department leaders on employee engagement, retention, and effective people management practices.
  • Run training for managers, especially on labor compliance and people processes, to encourage proactive leadership and lower turnover.
  • Work with the Director of People & Culture and other stakeholders on workforce planning and organizational development initiatives.
  • Help manage compensation programs and track performance review activities to support fairness and consistency.
  • Lead projects that review turnover and attendance data, then turn findings into practical retention and recruiting improvements.
  • Make sure employment practices align with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Provide occasional support to other business areas, including team-building efforts and collaboration across regions.

Candidate profile

  • At least 6 years of experience as an HR Business Partner or in a comparable HR role, including handling complex employee relations issues and supporting frontline or hourly employees.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Human Resources, Business, Law, Psychology, or Organizational Development.
  • Experience using Workday or a similar HRIS platform is preferred, with willingness to learn if needed.
  • Strong understanding of labor law, wage-and-hour compliance, and employment regulations affecting non-exempt and hourly employees.
  • Experience partnering with operations and field leadership to provide practical HR guidance and workforce planning support.
  • Ability to coach managers through people issues, difficult conversations, and workplace challenges while supporting a positive culture and helping prevent unionization.
  • Comfort analyzing turnover and attendance patterns to build and implement retention strategies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple levels of leadership.
  • Highly organized, able to balance competing priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Confident, energetic, and resourceful, with a creative approach to problem solving and a good sense of humor.
  • Discreet, trustworthy, and able to exercise sound judgment while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Customer-focused and a strong team player.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
