Job description
Overview
This is a two-year fixed-term full-time position based in Dublin requiring 39 hours per week, with an annual leave entitlement of 25 days. The Healthcare Assistant role involves delivering compassionate, person-centred support to individuals with disabilities in diverse environments such as residential and community settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer tailored, high-quality care aligned with individual needs, goals, and support plans.
- Assist Pathways students with daily activities, encouraging independence, dignity, and inclusion.
- Monitor and report on students' health status promptly using proper channels.
- Maintain safe, supportive surroundings following organisational policies and health and safety standards.
- Support personal care tasks including hygiene, dressing, bathing, ensuring privacy and respect.
- Help plan and prepare meals following dietary requirements and care plans.
- Assist with mobility and participation in daily routines, including use of mobility aids.
- Accompany students to community activities, appointments, education, and employment opportunities as needed.
- Provide transportation for students to residential, medical, therapy, and community locations when required.
- Keep accurate, confidential records adhering to organisational procedures and data protection regulations.
- Comply fully with policies on safeguarding, infection control, risk, and incident management.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, families, and stakeholders.
- Attend team meetings, supervision sessions, mandatory trainings, and pursue ongoing professional development.
- Perform other reasonable duties related to the role as assigned.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication suitable for varying communication needs.
- Capacity to establish trusting, professional relationships with students, coworkers, and families.
- Experience and willingness to work within multidisciplinary teams positively.
- Ability to deliver compassionate, respectful, person-centred care promoting choice and dignity.
- Proficient in IT applications including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and electronic care documentation systems.
- Strong organizational abilities with good time management and prioritization skills.
- Capability to recognize and address potential concerns calmly and professionally, adhering to protocols.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least two years' experience working in healthcare, educational, or social care settings, preferably with disabilities or community services.
- Demonstrated skills providing personal care and support for daily living activities to disabled individuals.
- QQI Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare Support or equivalent practical experience.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices within care environments and understanding confidentiality and data protection.
- Aware of infection prevention, safeguarding, and professional boundary maintenance.
- Flexibility to work across various service settings as needed.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience assisting persons with visual or intellectual impairments.
- Experience with individuals exhibiting behaviours of concern.
- Familiarity with New Directions disability services framework and digital care record systems.
- Possession of a full, clean Irish driving licence is advantageous.
Additional Requirements
- Must be eligible to work in Ireland.
