Healthcare Assistant

Role overview

This is a permanent Healthcare Assistant position based in Roscommon, County Roscommon, Ireland. The role runs for 39 hours each week and involves supporting the daily running of a residential care service through direct assistance to service users, administrative duties, and household tasks.

Key duties

• Encourage and assist service users to take part in planned activities they choose for themselves.
• Provide personal care and help meet day-to-day needs in a respectful, supportive way.
• Work in a manner that promotes independence and community participation, aligned with New Directions (HSE, 2012).
• Build knowledge of each service user through active listening, self-learning, and reflective practice to strengthen your own practice.
• Take on a key worker role when required, with support from senior staff.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, help others manage their workload, and contribute positively to team meetings and supervision sessions with the PIC, Deputy Manager, or SCL.
• Protect confidentiality at all times in line with GDPR and organisational requirements.
• Handle medication management and administration in accordance with the medication policy.
• Communicate and coordinate with multidisciplinary professionals, families, and other relevant contacts.
• Carry out health and safety monitoring, observation, and reporting duties.
• Take part in person-centred planning meetings, follow through on agreed actions, and support outcomes from those discussions.
• Continue to support service users in their everyday lives and routines.

Requirements

• A relevant Health Care or Social Care qualification, with QQI Level 5 as the minimum standard.
• A full, clean driving licence with at least two years of experience is preferred.
• Strong commitment to supporting people with disabilities.

Compensation and terms

The annual salary for this position is €32,691. The appointment is offered as a permanent contract with a 39-hour working week.
