Job description
Role Overview
This contract position for 12 months involves comprehensive management of health, safety, and environmental aspects on civil construction and earthworks projects. The role is based in Abu Dhabi Emirate, UAE, focused on ensuring regulatory compliance, hazard identification, and promoting workplace safety culture.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct daily safety inspections related to excavation, grading, backfilling, compaction, and operation of heavy machinery.
- Verify adherence to method statements, risk assessments, and permit-to-work protocols.
- Oversee safe use of earthmoving equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, graders, rollers, dump trucks, and loaders.
- Identify workplace hazards and drive corrective and preventive measures.
- Facilitate toolbox talks, safety inductions, and health, safety, and environmental awareness sessions.
- Ensure all personnel properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Manage traffic control and pedestrian safety within the construction site.
- Verify the safety of lifting operations and excavation tasks.
- Maintain emergency preparedness standards on site.
- Maintain detailed registers, checklists, and project documentation related to HSE.
Environmental Management
- Oversee dust suppression, waste disposal, fuel handling, and spill prevention.
- Implement environmental controls during excavation and hauling processes.
- Monitor noise and vibration mitigation measures as needed.
- Ensure compliance with both environmental laws and client-specific environmental criteria.
Incident and Compliance Management
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe situations on-site.
- Compile incident reports and propose corrective strategies.
- Maintain comprehensive HSE records and safety statistics.
- Coordinate corrective action closure with supervisors and subcontractors.
- Participate actively in HSE audits and inspections conducted by clients or regulatory bodies.
Coordination and Communication
- Engage with engineers, supervisors, operators, and subcontractors on all HSE-related issues.
- Support the deployment and adherence to company HSE policies.
- Encourage a proactive safety culture throughout the workplace.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Preferably NEBOSH IGC, OSHA certification, or equivalent credentials.
- Additional certifications such as First Aid, Fire Safety, or Confined Space Safety are advantageous.
- At least 3 years of professional exposure to HSE within civil construction or earthworks.
- Experience in excavation, trenching, roadworks, grading, and operating heavy equipment is preferred.
- Knowledgeable about local HSE regulations and construction safety codes.
Compensation
Monthly salary ranges between AED 8000 and AED 10000.
