Health Attendant – Transport

About the Role

The Institute of Mental Health (IMH) invites applications for the position of Health Attendant – Transport within the Operations Department. The selected candidate will contribute significantly to the hospital’s smooth logistics operations by efficiently managing the movement and collection of various items across the hospital campus, aligning with operational, safety, and infection control requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate tow trucks to move food trolleys, dry rations, soiled linen, and waste materials between different hospital blocks, wards, and service areas, ensuring punctual and efficient service.
• Deliver meals and rations to hospital wards and retrieve used food trolleys and utensils back to the Dietetic and Catering Services Department.
• Transport general refuse, biohazard, and cytotoxic waste to designated disposal points, adhering strictly to segregation protocols and safety regulations.
• Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and basic maintenance of tow trucks, such as cleaning and checking batteries; promptly report any faults or safety concerns.
• Operate service lifts for transporting food, soiled linen, and waste trolleys between Level 1 and various ward levels, coordinating with ward staff to ensure smooth deliveries.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in service lift areas, refuse rooms, and soiled linen rooms, upholding excellent hygiene to prevent cross-contamination.
• Ensure precise segregation and safe handling of all materials transported, including hazardous waste, in compliance with hospital standards.
• Report promptly any issues such as lift malfunctions or trolley defects to supervisors.
• Assist supervisors with daily logistics management to maintain uninterrupted services, reporting any irregularities or incidents.
• Provide operational support for logistics functions including tow truck and service lift duties as required, alongside additional ad hoc transport tasks.
• Handle the transportation and unloading of deceased bodies to the Mortuary according to hospital policies, maintaining dignity, safety, and infection control practices; entails participation in a 24/7 standby rotation for emergency call-outs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate teamwork.
• Capability to work in warm or humid conditions commonly found within the hospital environment.
• Physical fitness to handle heavy lifting and manual movement of diverse trolleys.
• Educational qualification of at least Secondary, N, or O level or its equivalent.
• Basic proficiency in English for reading, writing, and speaking.
• Possession of a valid Class 3 or 4 driving license or a forklift license is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Availability and willingness to work on shifts including weekends and public holidays.
