Role Overview

Reporting to the Health and Safety Team Lead, the Health & Safety Advisor plays a pivotal role in fostering a proactive safety culture by supporting risk management initiatives throughout the company. The position is predominantly field-based within Western Australia, requiring visits to stores 3 to 4 days weekly, with the flexibility to work from home and on location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the creation and execution of effective safety-related policies, strategies, and procedures to minimize risks, reduce financial losses, ensure legal compliance, and drive ongoing safety improvements.
  • Develop and deliver training, coaching, and informational resources to enhance stakeholder understanding of legal safety requirements and obligations.
  • Offer expert guidance on workplace health and safety, collaborating with operational teams to identify hazards and apply appropriate controls.
  • Lead investigations into workplace incidents and injuries, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence and promote safety enhancements.
  • Perform workplace audits and safety observation visits across various business locations.
  • Engage with store teams at multiple sites to maintain compliance with safety initiatives and fulfill safety objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Track safety performance metrics, manage incidents and hazards in designated areas to ensure timely and effective follow-up.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and implement controls to maintain compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Provide monthly safety data and analysis for reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with Safety Coordinator to verify compliance of safety standards, risk assessments, audits, training, and incident follow-ups with legislative requirements per state.
  • Support various special projects as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Currently pursuing or holding tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety or related business fields is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience in roles with significant health and safety responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated capability to influence leadership and engage teams to embrace safety ownership and integrate it into daily operations.
  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively, managing priorities effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in risk management including conducting safety risk assessments and recommending effective risk controls.
  • In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Acts, Regulations, and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills paired with experience investigating incidents, determining root causes, and implementing solutions that enhance safety and operational efficacy.
  • Retail sector experience is advantageous.
