Role overview
Senior Helpers is looking to urgently fill a Health Care Assistant position in Vernon, British Columbia. This is an opportunity to build a meaningful career supporting seniors through in-home care. The role is a strong fit for both recent graduates and experienced caregivers from assisted living, independent living, senior living, nursing homes, home care, or other healthcare settings.
As part of the team, you will deliver personalized support that helps clients maintain comfort, dignity, and a better day-to-day quality of life. The company matches caregivers with seniors based on area of expertise, with the goal of creating a genuine and supportive home-care connection.
Key duties
- Help clients with personal care tasks such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Support daily living needs like light housekeeping and meal preparation.
- Observe clients and report any changes in condition to the healthcare team.
- Assist with safe movement, mobility, and patient transfers.
- Provide support with eating and drinking while following dietary instructions.
- Help with medication reminders and, when supervised, medication administration.
- Keep the care environment clean, safe, and comfortable.
- Offer emotional reassurance and companionship to clients and their families.
Qualifications and fit
The ideal candidate should bring a caring, empathetic approach and be comfortable working closely with seniors. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities are important. The role requires clear spoken and written English, and additional languages are considered an advantage.
Requirements
- Active registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
- Completion of a recognized Health Care Assistant training program.
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting as a Health Care Assistant is preferred.
- Negative TB test completed within the last 90 days.
- Negative Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the last 90 days.
- CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
- Access to reliable transportation and availability for varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
