Role overview

Senior Helpers is seeking Health Care Assistants for urgent openings in West Kelowna / Kelowna, British Columbia. This role is designed for people who want meaningful work supporting older adults in a home-based care setting. Both recent graduates and candidates with prior experience in assisted living, independent living, senior living, nursing homes, home care, or other healthcare environments are encouraged to apply.

In this position, you will help seniors maintain comfort, dignity, and quality of life by delivering personalized in-home care aligned with each client’s needs and your area of experience.

Key duties

  • Support clients with personal care tasks such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.
  • Help with everyday household and living activities, including light cleaning and meal preparation.
  • Observe client condition and share any notable changes with the care team.
  • Assist clients with moving around and transferring safely.
  • Provide help with eating and drinking while following diet instructions.
  • Support medication reminders and, under supervision, medication administration.
  • Keep the care environment tidy, safe, and comfortable.
  • Offer emotional reassurance and companionship to clients and their families.

Qualifications and skills

Applicants should bring a caring, empathetic approach along with strong communication and people skills. The ability to communicate in English, both spoken and written, is required. Additional languages are considered an advantage.

Requirements

  • Active registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Completion of a recognized Health Care Assistant training program.
  • Prior HCA experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • A negative TB test completed within the last 90 days.
  • A negative Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the last 90 days.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
  • Access to dependable transportation and the ability to work changing shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Compensation and benefits

The pay range for this role is CAD 23.00 to CAD 26.00 per hour.
