Job Overview
We are looking for a full-time reporter to join The Looker, our dedicated platform focused on health, beauty, wellness, and longevity. Though only eight months old, The Looker has quickly gained notable popularity. The reporter will craft and pitch compelling news, service pieces, shopping guides, and newsletters designed to educate and entertain an engaged audience. This position is based in our New York newsroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and write insightful stories across beauty, health, and wellness topics including news, shopping, and feature articles.
- Produce clear, precise, and factually accurate content while meeting fast editorial timelines using CMS and Substack tools.
- Spot unique cultural trends and new angles that distinguish our coverage from other publications.
- Manage deadlines efficiently, balancing timely news, evergreen content, and advanced long-lead feature assignments.
- Use SEO principles and analytics data thoughtfully to enhance reporting without compromising narrative voice or impact.
- Identify and engage with expert sources and conduct prompt interviews to enrich content quality.
- Represent the brand at industry events and cultivate meaningful relationships within the beauty and wellness sectors.
- Organize, request, and comparatively evaluate product samples for editorial purposes.
- Collaborate actively with the social media team and take part in video promotions to support story outreach when necessary.
- Maintain adherence to The Daily Beast’s rigorous editorial standards and ethical codes.
Qualifications
- Between 1 to 3 years of reporting and writing experience at notable media outlets, with a plus for coverage in wellness, beauty, or health sectors.
- Strong curiosity and passion for subjects influencing how people live, look, and feel.
- Experience or readiness to use digital publishing and content management platforms such as Substack and SocialFlow.
- Excellent skills in writing and reporting, capable of blending voice and credibility; understanding of integrating visuals and video in storytelling.
- Organizational strength and the ability to work under tight deadlines with proactive problem-solving.
Compensation
The annual salary for this role ranges between $58,500 and $65,000. Actual pay may vary based on work location, experience, performance, and other factors.
