Role overview
Falcon Green is hiring a Health and Safety Officer for a long-term assignment on a major civil engineering project in Maynooth, County Kildare. The position offers a salary of €80,000 plus package, depending on experience.
Key duties
- Maintain compliance with all site health, safety, environmental and sustainability policies, standards and procedures.
- Promote a strong safety mindset across the team through day-to-day actions and decision-making.
- Keep up to date with relevant environmental, health and safety laws, regulatory updates and industry standards, and ensure site practices reflect them.
- Provide an on-site HSQE presence during construction and operational activities to help ensure controls, mitigation measures and monitoring processes are in place and working effectively.
- Support senior advisors and the wider project team in developing construction stage plans, traffic management arrangements, waste management plans and related site controls, then track implementation.
- Help ensure the business fulfils its duties as Principal Designer, Principal Contractor and Contractor where applicable.
- Complete all required internal and external environmental, health and safety reporting accurately and on time.
- Act as a strong example of safe working behaviour on site.
- Handle other relevant tasks as needed from time to time.
- Liaise with the appropriate legal and regulatory authorities when required.
- Investigate accidents and incidents promptly with support from the project team, and prepare recommendations for management.
- Collect and review safety documentation from clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Ensure subcontractors understand the company plan and provide project-specific safety statements before being appointed.
- Implement the plan and monitor compliance by company staff and subcontractors.
- Escalate any health, safety or welfare concerns to the Contract Manager, Site Agent or foreman before leaving the site.
- Advise site management on the suitability of safety and health arrangements, safe methods of work, equipment safety and the validity of test certificates.
- Manage and maintain site safety records and documentation with the site team.
- Plan and deliver safety inductions and briefings for company personnel and subcontractors in line with the Safety and Health Plan for each project.
- Carry out site inspections and prepare reports based on findings.
Requirements
- A Level 7 qualification in Health and Safety, or a higher-level qualification.
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential.
- Strong working knowledge of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work legislation, related regulations and best-practice standards.
- Valid Safe Pass, Manual Handling certification and First Aid certification.
