Role summary

The Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for helping the business meet safety obligations on site and for strengthening the well-being of everyone working there. The role supports the maintenance of the Safety Management System, helps identify training needs, and works alongside the Health and Safety Manager to promote a strong safety culture.

Key duties

• Carry out site checks and audits, confirm that site teams follow company and statutory safety standards, and share findings with the Head of EHS.
• Assess subcontractor method statements and risk assessments and provide support where needed.
• Monitor day-to-day site compliance with safety procedures and internal rules.
• Maintain and develop the company’s Safety Management System.
• Identify training gaps and report them to the EHS team.
• Deliver and supervise safety inductions, weekly toolbox talks, site-based training, and safety initiatives.
• Plan and chair safety meetings.
• Create and apply common procedures and standards that support continuous improvement and a consistent EHS approach across the business.
• Review subcontractor insurance documentation, safety statements, and method statements.
• Support accident and incident investigations and help identify ways to reduce injuries, accidents, and work-related health issues.
• Prepare and submit weekly reports.
• Support the preparation of Safe Plans of Action with site teams.
• Lead workplace health and safety training, toolbox talk sessions, safety initiatives, and regular audits across the business.
• Attend client safety audits and meetings.
• Contribute to wider corporate EHS initiatives and help build a stronger safety culture across the organisation.
• Ensure compliance with safety legislation, regulations, codes, and rules.
• Work within a dynamic team supporting complex engineering and construction projects.
• Spot risks and issues early and resolve them or escalate them appropriately.
• Uphold the company’s customer care standards.
• Put EHS strategies into practice in line with company objectives.
• Manage EHS programmes across the business and provide oversight and governance for them.
• Support EHS performance reporting and collaborate to confirm compliance with business standards.
• Liaise with outside bodies such as the HSA, EPA, and local authorities.
• Take on additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and experience

This role calls for a relevant third-level qualification in EHS and at least 2 years of experience in a comparable position. Background in the construction sector is preferred. Applicants should be confident using Microsoft Office / Microsoft Suite tools, have strong organisational and planning abilities, and communicate effectively while working well within a team.
