Role Overview

An experienced, hands-on Health & Safety Advisor is needed to support a client on a prominent pharmaceutical project in Limerick. The role plays a key part in keeping the site safe on a technically demanding assignment involving advanced fire protection systems within a regulated pharma environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Set up, apply, and oversee project-specific health and safety management processes in line with Irish law and internal standards.
  • Carry out routine site walkthroughs, audits, and risk reviews to spot hazards and confirm compliance.
  • Assist with drafting and updating method statements, RAMS, and safe systems of work.
  • Make sure all work aligns with Irish HSA requirements, EU rules, and safety expectations for pharmaceutical projects.
  • Keep current with changes in safety regulations and sector best practice.
  • Work with regulators, client contacts, and internal teams during inspections and audits.
  • Run site safety inductions and toolbox talks for employees and subcontractors.
  • Help build a strong safety-first culture through ongoing engagement and behavioural safety activities.
  • Coach supervisors and operatives on correct and safe working methods.
  • Record incidents, near misses, and key safety data accurately.
  • Prepare and present KPI and safety performance updates to project leadership and senior management.
  • Partner with project managers, engineers, and contractors to embed safety into every stage of the project.
  • Support commissioning and installation work connected to fire protection systems and other critical infrastructure.
  • Help coordinate multiple contractors safely in a live or high-risk setting.

Requirements

  • A degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or a closely related field.
  • Professional credentials such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Extra certifications in pharmaceutical safety or construction safety are an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a health and safety position in construction, engineering, or industrial environments.
  • Previous work on pharmaceutical or other regulated projects is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of fire protection systems is a significant plus.
  • Solid understanding of Irish health and safety legislation and EU standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage stakeholders effectively.
  • Capability to positively influence behaviour and strengthen safety culture on site.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable using reporting tools and the Microsoft Office suite.
