Job description
Role overview
This opportunity is for an experienced Head of English Language Arts (ELA) to lead the development of a new American high school program in Saudi Arabia. The role is focused on building a strong, engaging, and technology-driven ELA offering from the ground up, with responsibility for shaping the academic direction of the subject area.
The position goes beyond standard classroom teaching. The selected candidate will oversee the full ELA program cycle, including curriculum planning, instructional design, assessment strategy, pacing, and support for other teachers, while also teaching one of the courses personally. The learning model is highly interactive and blends remote teaching, in-class facilitation, and digital tools.
This role can be done remotely, and relocation is not necessary.
Key responsibilities
- Create the ELA curriculum for the hybrid learning platform, including units, lesson plans, assessments, homework, and related instructional materials.
- Take ownership of the Grade 9 and Grade 10 launch plan, with immediate focus on building those levels for the Fall 2026 rollout between now and August.
- Guide, coach, and support other ELA teachers so they can deliver the curriculum effectively.
- Teach one online ELA section starting in August, aligned with the academic plan and learning goals.
- Continuously refine lessons, resources, and teaching materials to improve quality and student outcomes.
- Use digital learning tools and EdTech approaches to improve participation, engagement, and differentiation.
- Work closely with the broader team to strengthen the curriculum, delivery model, and student learning experience.
Requirements
- Proven experience creating American high school ELA curriculum aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
- Experience designing or teaching ELA for learners who may be studying in English as a second language.
- A recognized teaching qualification, such as a BA/MA in the subject, TESOL, CELTA, or an equivalent credential.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Availability for full-time work from Sunday to Thursday in GMT+3, with possible flexibility to work a half-day Sunday morning and a half-day Friday instead of a full Sunday.
- Experience teaching online groups of five or more students.
- Native English fluency and origin from an English-speaking country such as the US, UK, South Africa, or Australia.
- Stable internet connectivity and a professional-quality video setup.
Preferred experience
- Familiarity with AI tools or emerging EdTech resources for teaching ELA.
- Ability to speak Arabic.
- Experience designing or delivering ELA curriculum in a Muslim context.
What the role is looking for
- A professional who is ready to take on the challenge of building and delivering a strong Grade 9 and 10 ELA program by August 2026.
- Someone confident in owning program development, teacher training, and course delivery end to end.
- A person who is excited to shape the future of education and use modern technology and teaching methods in the classroom.
Who this role suits
- Best suited to experienced Heads of ELA from American international schools who enjoy innovation and building something new.
- Not suitable for candidates who prefer highly rigid methods or standard, pre-set delivery models.
- Ideal for self-starters who thrive in dynamic environments and unique teaching formats.
Additional details
This position may be remote or hybrid if the candidate is based in Saudi Arabia. Immediate availability is required.
