About the Role

Airport Development Group (ADG) is seeking a seasoned and strategic Head of Safety to spearhead the creation, deployment, and ongoing refinement of an enterprise-wide safety framework. Reporting directly to the Executive General Manager – Airports, this pivotal senior leadership role is essential in reinforcing ADG's safety-first culture, ensuring regulatory adherence, and promoting exemplary health, safety, and risk management standards across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct development and execution of ADG's health, safety, and risk management strategy.
  • Promote and nurture a mature, proactive safety culture throughout all business sectors.
  • Establish, update, and govern Safety Management Systems, policies, standards, and assurance frameworks.
  • Lead risk evaluations, hazard identifications, and safety assurance processes.
  • Manage investigations into safety incidents, perform root cause analysis, and oversee corrective action plans.
  • Offer expertise and guidance to executive leadership on WHS laws, compliance standards, and industry best practices.
  • Champion health and safety monitoring, audits, reporting, and continuous enhancement initiatives.
  • Supervise safety programs concerning contractors and suppliers.
  • Assist in emergency readiness, crisis management, and injury management protocols.
  • Represent ADG at government and industry committees and forums.
  • Continuously track safety performance, compliance levels, and organisational risk profiles.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an authoritative safety specialist with proven experience managing safety in complex operational environments. Combining strategic foresight with practical involvement, they are driven by cultivating workplaces where safety is a foundational principle.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success in crafting, instituting, and heading safety management systems and initiatives.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Australian WHS regulations, compliance obligations, and risk management philosophies.
  • Expertise in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and safety performance reporting.
  • Strong stakeholder management, excellent communication, and effective influencing capabilities.
  • Proven leadership skills in mentoring safety professionals and guiding operational leaders.
  • Analytical proficiency and effective problem-solving aptitude.
  • Valid Driver Licence.
  • Capability to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) and to pass an Australian Federal Police background check.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in aviation, airport operations, infrastructure, construction, or facilities management.
  • Formal accreditation or certification in investigative methodologies, quality assurance, or safety systems.
  • Acquaintance with aviation industry safety stipulations and operational frameworks.
