The Biennale of Sydney honours the Traditional Owners of the land, especially the Gadigal people, recognising their ongoing connection to country, waters, and culture. Established in 1973, it is among the world's oldest contemporary art biennials and the largest in Australia, featuring work by over 1,900 artists from more than 100 countries. It showcases contemporary art that encourages dialogue, connection, and cultural transformation through dynamic exhibitions across Sydney.

Role Overview

The Head of Production and Festival Delivery oversees the Biennale's Production department, managing the comprehensive planning, installation, and execution of the artistic program and related events at multiple locations. Reporting directly to the CEO and collaborating with the Artistic Director, this role holds a key position within the Executive Leadership Team contributing to strategy and ensuring the festival's smooth, safe, on-time, and budget-compliant delivery.

Key Responsibilities and Skills Required

Lead strategic and operational direction for exhibition production, logistics, installation, and event management across various venues.
Manage complex projects involving artists, partners, venues, suppliers, and internal teams within a vibrant international context.
Demonstrate strong financial acumen, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting capabilities.
Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety, risk management, and relevant regulations in public-facing production.
Exhibit excellent communication abilities, including stakeholder negotiation, relationship building, and senior reporting.
Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and vendors effectively.
Possess strong project management, problem-solving, and organizational competencies.
Show dedication to contemporary art and delivering ambitious artistic objectives.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Experience in contemporary visual arts exhibitions, biennials, festivals, or international cultural events.
Knowledge of public art, site-specific commissions, and processes related to art freight, registration, insurance, customs, and quarantine.
Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
