About Posh
Posh is dedicated to reversing the trend of digital isolation by fostering real-life social communities centered around shared interests. Founded by event organizers motivated by the loneliness epidemic and limited community-building tools, Posh offers a premier platform to create, monetize, and discover in-person communities. In six years, Posh has scaled to 70 employees, grown its user base beyond 8 million, raised $70 million in venture funding, and enabled over $350 million in transactions.
Role Overview
As the Head of People & Culture, you will be responsible for shaping an employee experience that combines high performance standards with trust, psychological safety, and stability. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role blends leadership with hands-on management of critical people operations including performance management, employee relations, compensation, benefits, payroll, and compliance. You will manage the People Operations team and collaborate closely with the Director of Talent to focus on developing and retaining current employees, setting a cultural foundation vital to Posh's continued growth and success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain company culture systems through rituals, programs, recognition, and communication that exemplify Posh's core principles.
- Foster a workplace environment balancing psychological safety with a high-performance ethos, encouraging honest feedback and transparent communication of difficult decisions.
- Manage team sentiment via engagement surveys, leadership feedback, and pulse checks, translating findings into actionable improvements.
- Create and oversee a comprehensive performance management system, encompassing clear role expectations, career progression frameworks, review cycles, and equitable performance improvement processes.
- Advise and coach managers and senior staff on effective feedback, communication, and team well-being while serving as a confidential resource for employees.
- Supervise onboarding and offboarding procedures to ensure clarity, respect, and consistency.
- Collaborate with the Culture Lead on organizing internal events, team-building activities, and off-sites to enhance in-person workplace engagement.
- Manage day-to-day people operations such as payroll, benefits, HR information systems, leave administration, and workers' compensation.
- Work with legal counsel to draft and maintain employment contracts, severance agreements, and compliance policies.
- Ensure adherence to employment laws at New York State, NYC, federal, and multi-state levels.
- Coordinate with the Director of Talent on compensation strategy, including market benchmarking and equity education.
- Handle complex employee relations matters with discretion, sound judgment, and thorough documentation.
- Support leadership in workforce planning and organizational design to optimize talent alignment with business objectives.
Candidate Profile
- Strong conviction in the mission to enhance meaningful real-world connections.
- At least 8 years of progressive HR leadership experience in fast-growing tech environments, including senior roles managing growth from about 50 to over 200 employees.
- Proven expertise managing both cultural initiatives and operational HR functions without reliance on an HR business partner.
- Extensive knowledge of New York State and City employment regulations and experience collaborating with legal counsel.
- Demonstrated ability to build and execute performance management systems and establish trust through transparent processes.
- Recognized as a trusted, confidential advisor within teams, maintaining stringent confidentiality and judgment.
- Comfortable challenging executive leadership when required to protect and advance company culture.
- Passionate about organizational psychology with a track record of boosting morale and performance.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with a readiness to engage hands-on to accomplish goals.
- Strong strategic and analytical skills paired with empathetic communication and leadership grounded in both data and emotional intelligence.
