Position Overview

The Head of Multimedia and Social is responsible for leading the creation, production, and dissemination of shortform digital video and social media content across BBC.com, the international BBC app, and affiliated platforms. This role manages a cross-functional team of journalists and producers, merging multimedia storytelling with strategic social media approaches.

Key Duties

  • Establish the editorial vision and strategic framework for all multimedia and social content on BBC.com and related digital platforms.
  • Provide leadership and daily management to a diverse multimedia and social team, nurturing a culture based on inclusiveness, innovation, openness, and responsibility.
  • Produce unique digital video content covering areas such as health, business, culture, travel, and technology, including timely news as well as in-depth feature projects.
  • Ensure efficient multimedia production workflows from commissioning to release.
  • Utilize BBC’s extensive journalistic archives and factual content for digital distribution enhancement.
  • Adapt and refine social media distribution strategies to suit various existing and emerging platforms and target audiences.
  • Collaborate creatively with BBC Studios partners to develop social media content and editorial campaigns.
  • Integrate new production technologies to boost content quality and workflow efficiency.
  • Maintain strict adherence to BBC’s editorial standards and values throughout all activities.
  • Work closely with senior management to align editorial directions with broader strategic objectives.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Extensive leadership experience in managing digital video production, multimedia content, and social media editorial teams.
  • Proven success in delivering impactful digital video projects and social media campaigns with measurable audience engagement.
  • Strategic aptitude to establish priorities and achieve defined performance goals.
  • Technical expertise in multimedia production processes including filming, editing, and digital asset handling.
  • Strong editorial insight and sensitivity to international audience interests.
  • Alignment with and enthusiasm for BBC’s mission, journalistic values, and storytelling principles.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Industry experience or deep interest in themes such as Travel, Health, Culture, and Sport.
  • Experience collaborating across complex organizations to deliver consistent daily and long-term factual content.
  • Knowledge of audience growth techniques, platform algorithms, and discovery tools for multimedia content.
  • Awareness of commercial editorial partnership dynamics.

Compensation and Work Arrangement

The expected salary range for this role is between $180,000 and $200,000 annually. Final salary depends on experience, skills, education, and location. This is a hybrid role requiring at least two days per week onsite in New York City.
