Key Responsibilities

• Lead and expand a high-caliber mechanical engineering team in Denver to develop innovative small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) and associated peripherals.
• Oversee the complete lifecycle of intricate mechanical system development from conceptual layout through manufacturing and deployment in the field.
• Drive design decisions with a focus on durability, usability, and manufacturability suitable for high-volume production.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in electrical, software, systems, product development, manufacturing, and supply chain management to produce integrated solutions.
• Define and implement technical direction, engineering standards, and development workflows for mechanical engineering projects.
• Lead and facilitate technical assessments, design reviews, and risk analysis across multiple engineering programs.
• Build organizational strength through strategic hiring, mentorship, performance oversight, and career development.
• Develop resource allocation plans, staffing models, and organizational structures to support the company's growth trajectory.
• Play a pivotal role in scaling PDW's Denver engineering hub into a world-class organization.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience designing complex mechanical systems for high-rate manufacturing environments.
• At least 4 years in an engineering leadership role managing teams and senior engineers.
• Proficiency in designing for high-volume manufacturing processes including injection molding, casting, and stamping.
• Experience with electromechanical system design, involving motors, sensors, and complex wiring harnesses.
• Expertise in applying Statistical Process Control (SPC) to component and assembly qualification.
• Competency in practical tolerancing approaches and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
• Proven track record managing cross-functional teams including engineers and industrial designers for multiple product developments.
• Basic knowledge of electronics and software design principles.
• Strong interpersonal skills for building robust collaborative relationships internally and externally.
• Ability to perform effectively under pressure within fast-paced and deadline-driven environments.
• Experience in defining and implementing engineering processes, technical standards, and development methodologies.
• Demonstrated success in recruiting, mentoring, and growing high-performing engineering teams.
• Effective communication skills to influence both technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Credentials

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience scaling engineering teams amid rapid organizational growth.
• Background in developing integrated mechanical systems with computing, sensing, communication, and power subsystems.
• Familiarity with AS9100, ISO9001, or equivalent quality management standards.
• Hands-on exposure to new product introductions, production ramp-up, and large-scale manufacturing.
• Practical experience with UAVs, robotics, aircraft systems, or autonomous platforms.
• Experience supporting products operating in challenging field or operational environments.

Additional Information

ITAR Compliance: Candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or individuals with asylee/refugee status in accordance with U.S. regulations.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, and move throughout the day with capability to lift or carry up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity required for operating standard office, manufacturing, and electronics test equipment.

Work Environment: The role operates primarily in office and manufacturing settings, potentially including outdoor or non-climate-controlled areas. Occasional travel to customer sites may be necessary. The job demands cross-department collaboration, adaptability to fast-paced work, and occasional extended hours.

Salary Range

The annual compensation for this position ranges from $250,000 to $300,000.
