Job description

Role overview

Everyturn Mental Health is hiring an experienced and strategically minded Head of Marketing & Communications to guide the organisation’s marketing and communications direction as it launches a new organisational strategy. The role will help broaden reach, sharpen the organisation’s public profile, and make it easier for people and communities to access the support they need.

This is a senior leadership position with influence across the organisation. You will work alongside trustees, executive leaders, senior managers, frontline staff, partners, and people using services to shape clear, engaging communications that build brand recognition, support business growth and fundraising, influence the wider mental health landscape, and connect people with the right help at the right time.

About the role

You will lead the marketing and communications team and own the development and delivery of plans that align with the wider organisational strategy. The role covers the sales and marketing plan, internal communications, brand direction, tone of voice, multi-channel campaigns, supplier management, and project-based marketing across a diverse range of services and strategic initiatives.

The post calls for strong strategic judgement, relationship-building ability, commercial thinking, and excellent communication. You should be comfortable advising and shaping decisions with senior stakeholders while staying grounded in the experiences of colleagues, partners, and service users.

This is a remote position, although a North East base is preferred.

The role cannot be sponsored because it does not meet the relevant UK Visa and Immigration requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Guide, support, and grow a high-performing marketing and communications team, including line management, workload planning, recruitment, retention, and performance oversight.
  • Co-create and deliver Everyturn’s sales and marketing plan so it supports strategic priorities and wider organisational objectives.
  • Build and implement marketing plans for specific projects that raise brand awareness, generate leads, support fundraising, promote services, and improve access to help.
  • Deliver strong campaigns across print, radio, television, digital, social media, and events.
  • Develop thought leadership, campaign activity, and influencing work that helps drive improvements across the mental health system.
  • Continuously improve brand guidelines, tone of voice, and core messaging.
  • Oversee internal communications so colleagues feel informed, connected, recognised, and engaged.
  • Manage important supplier relationships, including web hosting, branding, and public relations partners.
  • Represent the function in board, executive, senior leadership, and other decision-making meetings, providing assurance on performance and responding to emerging priorities.

Candidate profile

You should bring substantial senior-level marketing management experience with a strong strategic record of achievement. The role requires proven leadership of effective teams and delivery of campaigns that create measurable impact.

You will need confidence working with senior stakeholders, including executive leadership, along with strong marketing and communications expertise and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will also be an effective leader and influencer who can build trusted relationships in complex organisations.

Experience in commercial marketing, fundraising, lead generation, project management, and NHS commissioning would be beneficial. A background in health, social care, charity, or crisis communications would also be an advantage.

Benefits

  • 30 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 32 days after 5 years’ service, with the option to buy or sell days.
  • Enhanced pension provision.
  • Wagestream access, allowing you to draw down earned pay early.
  • Smart Clinic Wellbeing Programme, including an Employee Assistance Programme, GP access, priority physiotherapy access, and counselling sessions, plus shopping discounts and the option to join a Blue Light Card.
  • Enhanced life assurance at three times your annual salary.
  • Additional benefits are available.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

Everyturn Mental Health says it values equality, diversity, and inclusion and welcomes applications from candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity status. The organisation also supports colleague networks for LGBTQ+, Black, Asian and minority ethnic, menopause, and neurodivergent communities.

Recruitment note

To help keep recruitment moving, the organisation may close the vacancy early once enough applications have been received. Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
