Overview
At NABU e.V. in Berlin, we are seeking a Head of the International Department to lead and strategically shape our global conservation activities. This role focuses on implementing the concept "People and Nature" in partnership with strong local collaborators across selected key regions worldwide. You will integrate strategy, collaboration, and impact management while coordinating our international initiatives and advancing the department’s future direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the strategic orientation of the department, ensuring measurable impact through effective monitoring and evaluation of international projects.
- Lead and develop approximately 20 employees across three teams, manage the NABU International Conservation Foundation operationally as a board member, foster leadership cooperation, and support personnel growth.
- Advance existing partnerships and cultivate new alliances to expand successful conservation approaches.
- Manage the department’s budget and spearhead fundraising efforts to secure financial sustainability.
- Align project proposals with strategy and financial frameworks, overseeing their progression within the department.
- Represent and position NABU International credibly to key stakeholders within global networks.
Candidate Profile
- Relevant academic qualification, ideally supplemented by comprehensive knowledge of international nature and species conservation and experience working in associations or NGOs.
- Extensive background in international project management, adept in collaboration with donors, partners, and indigenous communities, leveraging established networks for impactful conservation work.
- Proven leadership experience with a motivating management style and familiarity with organizational development.
- Experienced in third-party funding acquisition with solid understanding of budget and financial processes applied strategically.
- Fluency in English for negotiations and communication, comfortable working across diverse cultural environments, with additional language skills preferred (especially French or Russian).
