About the Position

We are looking to recruit a seasoned and commercially savvy Head of Finance to take charge of our financial operations within a vibrant travel and tour operator company based in Birmingham, UK. This senior management position reports directly to the CEO and MD, offering a chance to lead financial strategy, boost operational performance, and oversee a dedicated finance team amid a thriving sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct comprehensive financial operations such as accounting, budgeting, cash flow monitoring, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Create and implement financial strategies that align with broader company goals.
  • Deliver insightful commercial financial analyses to guide strategic decisions.
  • Ensure stringent financial controls, risk management, and compliance frameworks are maintained.
  • Be responsible for the accuracy and punctuality of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership on business planning, pricing models, and overall performance enhancement.
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with auditors, banks, and other external financial partners.
  • Continuously improve financial systems, processes, and reporting mechanisms for greater efficiency.
  • Lead and mentor a finance division of up to 12 employees, fostering a high-performing team environment.

Candidate Requirements

  • Substantial experience in a senior finance leadership role such as Head of Finance or Finance Director.
  • Essential prior experience in the travel industry, specifically tour operators or a closely related field.
  • Strong familiarity with travel-specific financial structures including dealing with seasonality, deferred revenues, and supplier contracts.
  • Fully qualified accountant with robust technical accounting capabilities.
  • Certification as an Internal Auditor (CIA) or demonstrable experience collaborating with auditing professionals.
  • Proven leadership abilities managing teams up to 12 members.
  • Excellent commercial insight with the capacity to influence executive-level stakeholders.
  • Experience thriving in a fast-moving, expansion-focused business setting.
  • Deep understanding of financial controls, legal compliance, and risk governance.
  • Advanced analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
