Role overview
This position leads the company’s market growth agenda in Kampala, Uganda. The role is centered on spotting promising markets, shaping entry plans, coordinating cross-functional execution, and making sure expansion efforts are commercially sound and operationally manageable.
Key responsibilities
- Create and roll out strategic plans for entering new markets, including opportunity spotting, market sizing, and defining how the business should enter each market.
- Carry out detailed market and competitor studies to understand demand, customer behavior, rivalry, and the local regulatory setup.
- Evaluate and rank target markets using factors such as market volume, growth prospects, competitive pressure, and fit with company goals.
- Build and execute market-entry approaches covering segmentation, customer profiling, distribution planning, pricing, and promotional activities.
- Build and sustain working relationships with important stakeholders such as public agencies, trade bodies, distributors, suppliers, and strategic collaborators.
- Work closely with sales, product, operations, and finance teams to keep expansion initiatives aligned and well coordinated.
- Prepare and oversee expansion budgets, use resources efficiently, and monitor spending to keep execution cost-effective.
- Measure expansion performance, review progress against targets, and share regular status updates with senior leaders and other stakeholders.
- Spot potential risks and constraints tied to expansion, including compliance issues, operational limitations, and competitive risks, then help reduce their impact.
- Keep up to date with industry direction, best practices, and new technologies relevant to market expansion and business growth.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, or a similar discipline is required; a master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Experience in market expansion, business development, or a closely related function, with a strong record of supporting successful market entry and growth outcomes.
- Solid analytical ability, including practical knowledge of market research, competitor assessment, and financial analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, plus the ability to build effective relationships with internal colleagues, external partners, and industry stakeholders.
- Good project management capability, with the ability to juggle several priorities and initiatives at the same time.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-moving, evolving environment.
- Prior exposure to international expansion work, including market entry planning, regulatory requirements, and cross-cultural coordination, is preferred.
