Job description
About the role
Macquarie is seeking a design leader to shape how customers experience banking and financial services across digital products and service journeys. This position focuses on strengthening design capability, growing the team, and making design a clear strategic advantage across the business.
Macquarie is a global financial services organisation active in 30 markets and backed by 57 years of consecutive profitability. The company aims to offer a career where people can create meaningful impact while being supported to contribute in their own way.
Key responsibilities
As Head of Design for Banking and Financial Services, you will oversee the full customer experience design function, spanning product design, service design, design systems, voice of customer, and accessibility. You will also develop a strong team environment and coach designers so they can do outstanding work.
You will define the design direction for Banking and Financial Services and build trust and influence across the organisation. In this role, you will work closely with leaders in engineering, product, brand, and the wider business to ensure design is treated as a strategic differentiator.
What the role calls for
The ideal candidate has a history of building design teams and mature design practices that create business value. You should be comfortable handling complicated stakeholder relationships and able to establish credibility with senior executives from the outset.
Strong design craftsmanship is essential, along with the ability to raise standards and earn the respect of experienced designers. You should also have a proven record of coaching senior design leaders and helping already-strong people become exceptional.
Experience across product design, service design, and large-scale design systems governance is important. The role also requires confidence in complex, large organisations and the ability to lead independently without needing close direction.
Benefits
Depending on employment type, Macquarie offers a broad range of benefits, including wellbeing leave, bonus leave, parental leave, volunteer leave, gender affirmation leave, employee assistance support, health and skin checks, flu vaccinations, salary packaging options, learning and development opportunities, professional membership or subscription reimbursement, flexible and hybrid working arrangements, and support for work-from-home equipment.
Diversity and inclusion
Macquarie is committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Applications are encouraged from people of all backgrounds and identities, including race, ethnicity, cultural identity, nationality, gender identity or expression, age, sexual orientation, marital or partnership status, parental or caregiving status, family and domestic violence status, neurodiversity, religion or belief, disability, and socio-economic background.
The organisation also aims to provide reasonable adjustments for candidates who need support during recruitment or while working. Additional assistance can be requested during the application process.
Team context
Banking and Financial Services is Macquarie’s technology-led retail banking business. The team supports customers in achieving their goals, whether they are buying a home, growing a business, or managing wealth through investing.
Other information
Macquarie welcomes applications from people who are excited by the role or by the opportunity to work there. The company also encourages candidates to discuss inclusion needs and any required adjustments during the recruitment process.
