About the Role

Opportunity to join a leading main contractor as Head of Design for a high-profile £74 million commercial refurbishment project in Bristol. This role involves overseeing the design function to deliver a modern, sustainable workplace through comprehensive refurbishment and office fit-out.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design strategy and delivery for a major commercial redevelopment.
• Manage consultant design teams and coordinate multi-disciplinary design efforts.
• Ensure design information aligns with the construction schedule for timely issuance.
• Conduct design coordination, buildability assessments, and value engineering reviews.
• Identify and mitigate design risks, handle technical queries, and manage design change processes.
• Collaborate closely with project, commercial, and construction teams to guarantee successful delivery.
• Foster strong relationships with clients, consultants, and key project stakeholders.
• Ensure all design activities comply with statutory, technical, and project standards.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience as a Head of Design, Senior Design Manager, or Design Lead under a main contractor environment.
• Deep expertise with major refurbishment, retrofit, cut & carve, and commercial office projects.
• Background working with Tier One or prominent regional main contractors.
• Strong command of design management principles, construction methodologies, and overall project delivery.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Degree qualified in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related fields.
