Job description
About the Organisation
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading charity focused on end-of-life support. It is the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK and the only organisation delivering this support across all four nations. Its work includes community nursing, end-of-life care, information and guidance on dying, death and bereavement, plus research and campaigns aimed at improving quality of life for people living with life-limiting illness.
Role Overview
The communications team shapes and delivers Marie Curie’s external communications approach so that the organisation’s identity and reputation are consistently represented with the public, stakeholders, communities, the media and regulators. As Head of Communications, you will help position Marie Curie as a trusted expert in end-of-life care, broaden its reach, strengthen its influence and ensure its voice has greater impact. This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who wants to use communications to influence public conversation and support meaningful change within a mission-led charity.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, execute and oversee external communications activity so it reflects the organisation’s strategy and values.
- Partner with teams across the organisation to make sure messaging is consistent, aligned and effective.
- Work alongside the Director of Corporate and Strategic Communications and the Head of PR and Media to coordinate crisis communications, including response planning and core messaging.
- Lead, coach and develop the communications team.
Application Process
Applicants will need to submit a CV along with additional supporting details through the online application. Candidates should review both the advert and the job description carefully and highlight the experience, skills and knowledge most relevant to the position. Applications close on Monday 29 June, although the vacancy may be withdrawn earlier if enough suitable applications are received.
Employment Details
This is a full-time, permanent contract. The role is based in the UK and can be done from home, with occasional travel to the London headquarters required. The salary is £58,500 to £65,000 depending on experience.
Values, Inclusion and Safeguarding
Marie Curie places strong emphasis on its values in day-to-day work and decision-making. The organisation is committed to providing a safe, supportive, inclusive and rewarding workplace for staff and volunteers. It also takes safeguarding seriously, applying robust measures to ensure people appointed to roles are suitable and protected from harm. Sustainability is embedded into decision-making to support both the people it serves and the wider environment.
The organisation actively promotes diversity, equity and inclusion and welcomes applications from people with a wide range of cultures, perspectives and lived experiences. Reasonable adjustments can be provided during the recruitment process. Candidates who need support can contact recruitment@mariecurie.org.uk.
Every application is personally reviewed by the Talent Acquisition team, and applicants are asked to ensure their submission authentically reflects their own experience, perspective and voice.
