Head of Commercial Finance

Role overview

Craigs Investment Partners is seeking a senior commercial finance leader to partner with executive stakeholders and convert financial information into clear strategic direction. The role sits at the intersection of modelling, planning, and business strategy, with meaningful exposure to senior decision-makers and the chance to influence the firm’s long-term growth.

Based in the Tauranga head office, or alternatively Auckland, this position works closely with the CFO, Head of FP&A, Strategy team, and wider executive leadership. A significant part of the role involves supporting the company’s growth agenda through mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and new product initiatives, as well as maintaining financial models that inform long-range planning and strategic choices.

This is a broad, hands-on strategic finance position that offers strong career development. The ideal person will bring sharp analytical thinking, excellent communication, and a proactive, positive approach.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with senior leadership to turn financial data into actionable business insights.
• Work with the Strategy team to support growth initiatives, including M&A and product development.
• Build, maintain, and refine long-range planning and strategic financial models.
• Provide modelling and analytical support to the CFO, Head of FP&A, Chief Strategy Officer, and Chief Wealth and Markets Officer.
• Contribute to executive decision-making through scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, and commercial evaluation.
• Manage multiple workstreams in a fast-moving environment while staying organised and proactive.

Candidate profile

• At least ten years of equivalent professional experience.
• More than 5 years of experience in strategy consulting, investment banking, corporate finance, or a strategy role within a large corporate environment is preferred.
• Demonstrated M&A experience.
• A relevant tertiary qualification at degree level.
• Useful knowledge of the financial services industry is an advantage.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel capability with strong financial modelling expertise.
• Experience with scenarios, sensitivity analysis, and well-structured, auditable models.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
• Good investigative ability, commercial judgement, and problem-solving skills.
• A collaborative mindset, strong organisation, and a desire to make a meaningful contribution.
