Position Overview
National Gas Services invites applications for a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping and executing the growth strategy of a major business generating annual revenues between £75 million and £100 million. The Head of Commercial & Business Development will spearhead expansion initiatives, cultivate strategic partnerships, and oversee sustainable growth across Gas, Water, Future Energy, and Technology sectors within the UK and internationally. This role includes frequent travel to the Ambergate headquarters and client locations across the UK with occasional international travel requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and implement the long-term commercial and business development strategy.
- Provide commercial insights and market intelligence to guide business direction.
- Lead expansion in domestic and international markets across multiple sectors including Gas, Water, Future Energy, and Technology.
- Identify and foster strategic partnerships that bolster sustained growth.
- Drive pursuit and conversion of high-value contracts and tender opportunities.
- Influence commercial frameworks and strategic plans to support future growth ambitions.
- Ensure commercial performance aligns with revenue targets of £75m to £100m.
- Develop and maintain executive level relationships with customers, partners, and key stakeholders.
- Lead and mentor a commercial and business development team of around 30 staff through six senior managers.
- Advise the Executive Leadership Team on growth strategies, market prospects, and commercial risks.
- Represent the company at industry, customer, and international forums.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be an experienced commercial leader with a strong background in directing strategic business growth in contract-driven and complex environments. Demonstrated ability to lead international commercial activities, develop markets, and maintain profitability within similar business scales is essential. The candidate must have impressive strategic vision, influential communication skills, and expertise in financial leadership.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Proven senior commercial leadership experience managing business growth and market expansion.
- Track record of crafting and executing commercial strategies within complex contracting environments.
- Experience managing commercial and business development across international markets.
- Successful delivery of continuous revenue growth and profitability in businesses of comparable size and complexity.
- Industry knowledge in Gas, Water, Future Energy, Technology, or allied infrastructure sectors.
- Strong commercial acumen and financial stewardship overseeing major revenue portfolios and P&L responsibilities.
- Expertise in sales and marketing strategy development aligned with sector-specific market conditions.
- Experience influencing and guiding executive-level business decisions.
- Ability to secure and sustain major commercial contracts and strategic partnerships.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and leadership skills with credibility at executive tiers.
- Proven success in leading large, layered teams and cultivating high-performing departments.
- Competency in interpreting complex commercial contracts and leveraging these for positive business outcomes.
- Experience in leading organizational change, continuous improvement, and business growth initiatives.
- Proficient analytical and commercial judgment skills, using data and insights for strategic decision-making.
- Willingness to undertake frequent UK and international travel.
