Role overview
This full-time Handyperson position in Lambeth is an opportunity to support vulnerable residents through practical, responsive repair and safety-related work. The post sits within a housing services environment and focuses on delivering small repairs and handyperson support to older people, disabled people, and other vulnerable customers across different tenures, while following the correct procedures and health and safety requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Set up, fit, and maintain community alarm and assistive technology systems, and explain how to use them clearly to customers.
- Carry out home fire safety checks and install smoke detectors as instructed by the Fire and Rescue service.
- Fit equipment for domestic violence customers supplied through the Community Safety partnership.
- Work with local authorities and partner organisations on a range of projects.
- Follow Fire & Rescue instructions for driving DFRS vehicles and keep accurate mileage logs.
- Take responsibility for the use of trade cards.
- Spot opportunities to improve the service, help implement changes, and share useful feedback.
- Cooperate with colleagues to help improve overall service delivery.
Essential requirements
- You must hold a full, clean UK driving licence.
- You should have hands-on trade experience and relevant training, preferably gained through a full craft apprenticeship.
- You need to be open to working additional hours from time to time if needed.
- You should be willing to take part in trade and personal development training when asked.
- An established background in a trade is required.
Additional information
Salary for the role is £28,860.
A Standard-level background check with the Disclosure and Barring Service will be carried out after an offer is made. The employer will cover the cost of this check. You will also be enrolled in the DBS updating service, which will be renewed every 3 years.
