Role overview
The gym attendant will oversee fitness spaces and help maintain a clean, secure, and comfortable environment for all users. This role combines floor supervision with customer support to ensure patrons receive helpful guidance and a positive experience while using the gym and fitness facilities.
Key responsibilities
- Work in line with all applicable policies and operating procedures.
- Support guests, visitors, and members by answering questions about fitness equipment, exercise classes, and fitness assessments.
- Deliver friendly customer service, including spotting support, basic equipment guidance, and responding to member queries.
- Keep the fitness areas neat and orderly by arranging dumbbells, weight plates, and bars, and by cleaning and disinfecting equipment.
- Monitor the fitness mezzanine and cardio sections actively to maintain safety and order.
- Maintain a tidy and well-organized work area at all times.
- Act as a first responder during emergencies and follow the required emergency procedures.
- Carry out opening and closing tasks for the fitness floor and cardio zones.
- Participate in compulsory meetings and semester-based training sessions.
- Help promote current facilities and programs offered through Recreational Services.
- Make sure residents check in and out properly when entering or leaving the gym facilities.
- Keep the gym, changing rooms, and equipment clean at all times.
- Apply and enforce gym rules and protocols.
- Provide emergency first aid when required.
Qualifications and requirements
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Internationally recognized First Aid certification, including CPR and AED training.
- Internationally recognized certification in Fitness Coaching, Instruction, or Personal Training.
- At least 3 years of fitness instruction experience in a comparable setting.
- Relevant training, education, or experience that builds the necessary knowledge and capability for the role.
- Safeguard certification.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good spoken and written English.
- Solid administrative and IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
