Job description
About the Role
This opportunity is based at THE PIG Hotel in Brockenhurst, SO42 7QL. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Grounds Person to join our welcoming garden team. The role involves working 35 hours per week over five days, with a starting hourly pay of £12.71, potentially increasing to £14.16 including tronc.
Our garden team divides into two groups: the kitchen garden team, focusing on productive planting, and the grounds team, responsible for lawn care, tree maintenance, and the upkeep of formal borders. These teams collaborate closely on various projects and events, aiming to maintain a naturalistic, unstructured landscape rather than a formal design.
Responsibilities
- Support the Head Grounds Person by performing all assigned tasks to ensure the hotel grounds are well maintained and presented.
- Manage lawn and tree care along with formal border upkeep.
- Engage confidently with guests, as the gardens and grounds are public-facing areas.
- Provide basic animal care including husbandry for pigs, chickens, and quails located on site.
- Operate and maintain gardening machinery such as petrol strimmers and mowers.
Required Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a similar grounds maintenance or horticultural role is preferred but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with PA1 and PA6 pesticide usage and related safety practices is advantageous.
- Ability to safely handle and maintain garden machinery like petrol strimmers and lawn mowers.
Employee Benefits and Perks
- Complimentary bed and breakfast accommodation during staff stays.
- 35% discount on food, beverages, and treatments.
- Meals provided during working hours.
- Annual holiday entitlement increases up to 33 days.
- Opportunity to purchase take-home goods at cost price.
- Free access to on-demand GP, physiotherapy, and counseling services for you and your family through Help@Hand.
- Availability of diverse learning and development programs.
- Anniversary vouchers offering dinner with wine for two.
