Job description
Position Overview
This role involves acting as a children's activities specialist, overseeing daily Kids Club operations aligned with the Recreation Manager's guidance. Responsibilities include organizing and executing activities for children and family events, as well as summer camps.
Primary Responsibilities
- Engage with children from infants to about ten years old, accommodating different physical abilities.
- Manage opening and closing procedures of the Recreation Center's child services area.
- Plan and implement enjoyable and educational activities for children.
- Ensure proper check-in of children with signed liability waivers from guardians before participation.
- Provide advance lists of necessary materials to the Family and Children's Services Coordinator for procurement.
- Set up and clean up activity areas, arranging spaces appropriately for upcoming events.
- Participate in special events including camps and classes, potentially held at various property locations.
- Work availability includes weekends and holidays as needed.
- Supervise up to eight children simultaneously while maintaining an interactive, age-appropriate routine.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in Kids Club and Teen Room, restrooms, and manage check-ins and phone communications per policy.
- Keep both program and storage areas tidy and safe.
- Exemplify a positive, cooperative attitude, promoting a teamwork-focused environment.
- Deliver service excellence consistent with the department’s standards.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Interact positively with other departments, offering support when possible.
- Handle equipment responsibly and maintain an organized professional workspace.
Qualifications and Skills
- Educational requirement: High school diploma or GED minimum.
- At least one year of relevant experience working with children, preferably in daycare or program settings.
- Capability to interpret information and perform basic arithmetic; requires good communication skills and patience.
- Must have or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
- A valid driver's license is required.
Communication and Collaboration
- Engage in daily verbal and written communication.
- Participate monthly in hosting children and member events.
- Occasionally involved in one-on-one coaching sessions.
- Continuous teamwork and cross-departmental communication are essential.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Regular activities include sitting, standing, walking, bending, crawling, reaching, crouching, kneeling, balancing, pushing/pulling, and lifting objects weighing up to 70 lbs.
- Tasks require manual dexterity, fine and gross motor skills, eye-hand coordination, near and far vision, color recognition, and hearing.
- Work is primarily indoors with overhead lighting and ventilation, but may include outdoor duties in various weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise, vibrations, chemicals, fumes, uneven surfaces, machinery, motorized equipment, and occasional ladder or scaffold use.
- Frequent computer and keyboard use required.
