Greenspeaker / Environmental Educator and Outreach Specialist

About the Role

Join the Greenpeace Canada Education Fund (GCEF) as a Greenspeaker, an Environmental Educator and Outreach Specialist dedicated to closing the climate literacy gap in Ontario's Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions. The GCEF is a nationally registered charity focused on public education, scientific inquiry, and environmental investigations. Established in 2020, it aims to empower Canadians with authoritative, accessible information on climate change, biodiversity conservation, and renewable energy solutions through interactive workshops.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct engaging presentations and workshops in schools (Grades 1–12) and community events, both virtually and in person, focusing on environmental themes such as Arctic protection, biodiversity, and sustainability.
• Identify and manage community tables at local events and eco-fairs, engaging directly with the public to promote the charity's mission.
• Build partnerships by reaching out to community groups, educational institutions, nonprofits, and corporate entities to schedule future presentations.
• Gather and report feedback from educators and event organizers to help refine educational materials and programs.

Qualifications and Skills

• Excellent public speaking and communication abilities, capable of captivating diverse audiences from children to professionals.
• Experience engaging with children and various demographic groups, adapting complex subjects into relatable, accessible language.
• Self-motivated with strong organizational skills to manage schedules and proactively secure outreach opportunities.
• Ability to simplify scientific or environmental information into impactful messages.
• Reliable and committed to GCEF's environmental mission and values.
• Access to reliable transportation for travel to schools and community events.
• Familiarity with collaboration tools like Slack and willingness to participate actively in team communications.
• Prior experience in teaching, mentorship, camp counseling, or public outreach is highly advantageous.
• Connections within local education boards, community groups, or corporate sustainability networks in the GTA, Hamilton, Peel, London, or Windsor regions are a plus.
• Availability during school hours for presentations.

Additional Information

This volunteer role requires a minimum commitment of one year. Responsibilities include hybrid work with mandatory in-person attendance at presentations and events, while team interactions are primarily online via Slack.
