Position Overview
The Global Accounts Director (GAD) will build trust-based partnerships with clients, gaining a comprehensive understanding of their current and future international business needs. This role involves leading the overall client relationship and crafting customized solutions using EDC’s financial products. The GAD manages assigned accounts while collaborating closely with an internal virtual team comprised of business, service, and knowledge experts. Additionally, the GAD is tasked with developing and executing a detailed sector strategy aimed at supporting trade diversification and economic transformation within a portfolio of corporate clients and prospects.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a strategic advisor and partner to clients by engaging senior executives to foster ongoing value creation, long-term partnerships, and sustainable growth.
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities by prospecting and managing relationships; represent EDC in sector and industry forums.
- Combine expertise in transaction structures and risk analysis with insight into client strategies and challenges to provide strategic guidance and growth paths.
- Lead cross-functional teams to support client needs, deploying sector strategies and innovating financial solutions.
- Formulate and implement comprehensive sector strategies to back trade diversification and economic transformation.
- Develop deep market and sector intelligence to anticipate trends, risks, and opportunities affecting clients and the business ecosystem.
- Influence EDC’s strategic direction by providing critical insights and advice to support risk management and informed decision-making in complex situations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in business development, client relationship management, and international financing, preferably in corporate, trade, or investment banking.
- Strong expertise in strategic account management best practices.
- Knowledge of corporate capital raising instruments and market factors influencing their use.
- Ability to comprehend client strategies and collaborate with diverse teams to influence innovative solutions.
- Experience dealing with capital markets and engaging with large, sophisticated corporate clients.
- Established professional network within corporate and financial sectors.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Fluency in both official languages (English and French).
- Familiarity with international business practices and global trade.
- Advanced designations such as MBA, CFA, CPA, or equivalent.
- Recent relevant experience in priority sectors including Energy & Energy Transition, Critical Minerals, Trade Enabling Infrastructure, Advanced Manufacturing, or Digital Industries.
Compensation and Work Environment
Salaries for this role typically range from $112,006 to $171,742 annually, dependent on experience and qualifications, in addition to a performance-based incentive. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, currently requiring presence in the office three days a week. Work locations include EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or community hubs in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, or Vancouver. Eligible candidates may access relocation assistance.
