Role Overview
The General Manager will oversee the day-to-day functioning of a licensed medical marijuana dispensary in Ohio, with responsibility for regulatory adherence, operational performance, and overall profitability. This position helps create a safe, organized, and patient-first workplace while directing department leads, budtenders, and support employees to deliver high-quality service and consistent operational standards.
The role reports to the Regional Manager / Ownership and is based at The Gardens Dispensary in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Core Responsibilities
Daily store leadership, staffing, compliance oversight, financial management, and customer experience are central to this position. The General Manager is expected to keep workflows efficient, maintain proper controls, and support team development across all departments.
Leadership and Store Operations
- Direct daily dispensary activity so work moves efficiently across all areas of the store.
- Recruit, coach, oversee, and assess assistant managers, shift leads, and budtenders.
- Create work schedules, control labor spend, and keep staffing at the right level.
- Run team meetings and support ongoing employee growth initiatives.
- Make sure onboarding, training, and continuing education are completed properly.
- Confirm that technology tools and systems are operating as intended.
- Work with inspectors, vendors, and government agencies during visits, audits, or questions.
Compliance and Security
- Maintain full compliance with Ohio Administrative Code 3796 and all Ohio Division of Cannabis Control Program requirements.
- Oversee patient checks, product dispensing, and accurate documentation using the MMCP registry and POS platform.
- Monitor inventory control, secure storage, and proper handling of all marijuana products.
- Act as the main contact during inspections and keep the store prepared for DCC audits.
- Enforce security procedures, including surveillance, access control, and incident reporting.
- Ensure staff stay current on any regulatory updates.
- Make sure all required state and company reports and audits are completed on schedule.
Financial Oversight
- Manage budgets, review revenue and expense performance, and support profitability targets.
- Handle daily cash procedures, deposits, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
- Review sales data and KPIs to build plans that support growth.
- Keep pricing accurate and ensure promotions follow compliance rules.
Customer Experience and Community
- Promote a patient-centered environment built on respectful, professional, and informative interactions.
- Resolve customer concerns quickly and effectively.
- Support community outreach and education efforts where applicable.
Qualifications
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and either hold or qualify for a Dispensary Employee License from the DCC. A minimum of 3 years of retail management experience is required; cannabis industry experience is preferred. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational abilities, along with familiarity with compliance tools such as METRC and the MMCP registry. Candidates must also be able to pass BCI/FBI background checks in line with DCC requirements.
Physical and Scheduling Requirements
This role requires the ability to stand and walk for long periods, lift up to 30 pounds occasionally, and work evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed.
Training and Onboarding
The selected candidate must complete DCC-compliant onboarding and annual continuing education training.
