Job description
About the organisation
The employer is an established infrastructure company with a strong position in the market, long-standing customer relationships and a high-quality asset base that produces stable recurring revenue. It supports leading New Zealand organisations with mission-critical needs and is now set up for further growth.
About the opportunity
This newly created General Manager position carries full profit and loss ownership for a business at an important turning point. The role will guide the move to a fully independent operating model while also delivering a growth plan in a sector with strong underlying demand. The company already holds a differentiated position and meaningful room to expand, and the focus will be on strengthening commercial partnerships, building organisational capability and tightening operational discipline to unlock that potential. It will suit a leader who enjoys both the complexity of operating within a larger group and the freedom to build something substantial.
Key responsibilities
- Steer the shift to a fully standalone operating model by putting in place the commercial structure, internal capability and governance needed to operate with independence and clear accountability.
- Grow the business by widening the customer base, strengthening strategic relationships and improving utilisation of a high-quality, capacity-rich asset base.
- Oversee financial and operational outcomes, take ownership of the P&L, maintain asset reliability and resilience, and develop a high-performing team with a strong accountability culture.
What you’ll bring
- Proven senior leadership experience in infrastructure, utilities, telecommunications or another asset-intensive sector, along with a track record of commercial growth and leading organisations through change.
- Strong commercial judgement and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively inside a larger organisation while keeping the pace and commercial focus of an independent business.
- A builder’s mindset: someone who can turn strategy into execution, grow high-performing teams and enjoy scaling a strong business into something bigger.
What’s on offer
- A visible executive role with real P&L ownership and the freedom to shape the strategy and culture of a business with significant growth potential.
- Back-up from the wider organisation plus the resources needed to pursue ambitious growth, without unnecessary constraints.
- Exposure to a sector with strong structural demand and a business whose assets, relationships and market standing already provide the foundations for a compelling growth story.
