Job description

Position Overview

Shared Health coordinates patient-focused health services across Manitoba, including province-wide and centralized healthcare functions. This role, based at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, offers a temporary part-time opportunity within the Ambulatory Care Surgery 1 unit.

Under the guidance of the Manager, Health Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) will deliver professional nursing care to patients, including those with complex health challenges. Responsibilities encompass independent nursing duties, administration of prescribed medical treatments, leading healthcare team efforts, and coordinating patient care and discharge. The RN will uphold the organization's vision, values, goals, and objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must have graduated from an accredited Registered Nursing education program.
  • Recent surgical nursing experience of at least two years is essential.
  • Prior experience in Ambulatory Care is required, with preference for familiarity with pre- and post-operative care of abdominal surgery patients.
  • Proficiency with standard computer software such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and specialized scheduling applications like EPR and EMR (Accuro) is necessary.
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) must be maintained with proof.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Active involvement in professional nursing associations like the Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) is favorable.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of the standards, code of ethics, and scope of practice for Registered Nurses as legislated and regulated in Manitoba.
  • Familiarity with regional policies, nursing care procedures, and various legal acts including PHIA, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, and WHMIS.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple patient care demands simultaneously.
  • Capability to function independently and collaboratively within healthcare teams.
  • Adaptability to rapidly changing situations and environments, maintaining focus despite interruptions.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with competence in Indigenous languages and awareness of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.

Physical and Work Conditions

  • This role requires moderate to heavy physical effort.
  • The position is part-time (0.50 FTE) with an expected daily work duration of 7.75 hours during day shifts.
  • The term is indefinite but may conclude on 24-hour notice if the incumbent returns from leave.
