General Duty Medical Laboratory Technologist

Position Overview

Under general supervision from the Charge or designated supervisor, the General Duty Medical Laboratory Technologist conducts clinical analyses and reports results on patient samples following established protocols. They also contribute to laboratory projects including standard operating procedures and chemical inventory management. This role entails maintaining a safe laboratory environment complying with professional and provincial guidelines, adhering to quality assurance standards, and supporting accreditation requirements. All duties align with Shared Health Diagnostic Services’ mission and values, current policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.

Employment Details

• Location: Boundary Trails Health Centre, Winkler, Manitoba, with occasional travel to Carman and Altona as operationally required.
• Employment Status: Temporary, 0.70 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE).
• Work Arrangement: In-person with shifts across days, evenings, weekends, standby coverage, and on-call duties.
• Daily Work Hours: 7.75 hours featuring annual base hours of 2015.
• Term Duration: From ASAP until March 9, 2027, covering a maternity leave position.
• Salary Scale: $40.367 to $50.642 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program.
• Successful completion of the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM) Prior Learning Assessment for specialty disciplines may be accepted.
• Current registration or eligibility for registration with the CMLTM is necessary.
• Membership with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is advantageous.
• Previous related work experience is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

• Effective English communication skills in written and spoken form.
• Familiarity with Windows operating environment and preferably Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions accurately.
• Strong analytical skills with the capability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure.
• Maintain confidentiality with all sensitive information.
• Proficiency in French (written and spoken) may be required for certain assignments.

Physical and Additional Requirements

• Availability to work shifts including weekends, holidays, standby, and callback duties.
• Flexibility to rotate between various laboratory workstations.
• Acceptance of exposure to all standard laboratory hazards as documented in the Job Hazard Analysis specific to the laboratory setting.

Additional Information

• Employment is contingent upon satisfactory Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Search, Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks conducted no more than six months before the start date; any service charges will be the candidate's responsibility.
• The incumbent may not hold multiple Shared Health positions exceeding a 1.0 FTE combined.
