Job description
Role overview
This role involves assessing candidate responses for GCE English Language against the approved marking guidance, while following recognition rules and exam administration procedures. Most marking is completed digitally through ePEN and can be carried out from home, although some subjects are still assessed using printed scripts delivered by post. The role requires strong subject expertise so the marking scheme can be applied accurately. Each examiner is assigned a set allocation of scripts.
Responsibilities
- Assess responses carefully and consistently so that marking standards remain stable across all scripts.
- Send required sample scripts to the Team Leader at the scheduled checkpoints.
- Keep to the agreed marking timetable and milestone deadlines.
- Complete all required administrative tasks exactly as instructed.
Experience and qualifications
- At least one academic year of teaching experience is required, gained within the last 8 years, in the relevant qualification subject, and after teacher qualification.
- A degree or an equivalent qualification is required.
- You must be a qualified teacher.
Required competencies
- Ability to stay effective and composed under pressure.
- Strong time management with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Advanced subject knowledge needed to apply the mark scheme correctly.
Additional information
The main marking window runs from May to July. Examiner training is scheduled between May and June.
