About the Role
USIC is hiring a Gas Locate Technician in Longview, Texas for a full-time, on-site field role. This position is aimed at people who enjoy working outdoors, value safety and accuracy, and prefer independent work in the field. The company focuses on underground utility damage prevention and infrastructure support, with its gas division serving gas customers through dedicated advanced gas operations.
This is a long-term career opportunity with structured training and room to grow. Prior locating experience is not required, though experience in the industry may influence starting pay.
What You’ll Do
- Use locating tools to identify gas line locations within assigned areas and clearly mark them with paint and flags to help prevent damage to underground utilities.
- Perform limited hand digging when needed to expose gas lines.
- Build working knowledge of underground utility systems and infrastructure.
- Work in line with company, client, state, and federal damage-prevention standards.
- Depending on assignment, you may also be asked to locate other utilities in addition to gas lines.
Work Schedule
This is a daytime, full-time position. Many locate requests must be completed within 48 hours, so the role may require working the day after holidays and, when needed, some weekends. The job also requires availability for overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call work, including nights and weekends, based on business needs.
Compensation
The pay for this role is $20.00 per hour.

Requirements
- Comfort working outdoors in changing weather conditions
- Availability for overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts
- Willingness to travel locally during the day and, at times, outside the area or overnight
- Ability to pass a drug screen for a safety-sensitive role
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving history
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods on uneven ground, bend and stoop, and lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to tell apart colors used for wire identification and utility marking
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to read locate tickets, maps, and prints, and to use simple math for distance calculations
- Clear communication skills for working with coworkers, customers, contractors, and homeowners
Eligibility
Applicants should be dependable, safety-minded, and comfortable working independently in the field. Outdoor experience and customer service experience are helpful but not required. Veterans are encouraged to apply.
