Gas Locate Technician

Role Overview

USIC is seeking a field-based Gas Locate Technician in Bowling Green, Kentucky. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, values safety, and prefers independent work in the field. The position supports the company’s Advanced Gas Operations team, which focuses on protecting underground gas infrastructure and helping prevent damage to utility assets.

No previous locating experience is required, and training is provided from day one. Prior industry experience may be considered when setting starting pay. Technicians work independently in the field using a company vehicle and ticket/claims systems to complete accurate mark-outs for excavators and property owners.

What You’ll Do

• Use locating tools to identify gas line locations in assigned areas, then mark them with paint and flags to help avoid damage to underground infrastructure; limited hand digging may be needed.
• Build practical knowledge of underground utility systems and how they are laid out.
• Follow all damage-prevention rules set by the company, clients, and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Depending on the assignment, you may also locate other utilities in addition to gas lines.
• Work as a daytime, full-time field technician and support locates that require a 48-hour turnaround.
• Be available for overtime, weekend work, and on-call shifts, including nights and weekends, based on business needs.

What We’re Looking For

• Comfort working outdoors in different weather conditions.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts when needed.
• Ability to travel locally during the workday, with occasional overnight or out-of-area travel if required.
• Ability to pass a drug screen for this safety-sensitive role.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving history.
• Physical ability to stand and walk for long periods on varied terrain, bend and stoop, and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Color vision sufficient to identify wire markings and underground utility indicators.
• Comfort using technology and company-issued equipment.
• Ability to read locate tickets, maps, and prints, and use basic math to calculate distances.
• Strong communication skills for working with coworkers, customers, contractors, and homeowners; customer service background is helpful.

The role pays $19.00 per hour.
