Job description

About the Company

Perle is an AI infrastructure company that creates expert-led training data, evaluation frameworks, and applied AI tools for top labs and enterprises. Based in San Francisco and supported by specialists in more than forty markets, the company focuses on work that depends on human judgment, language precision, and cultural understanding that generic data providers often miss.

Role Summary

Perle is looking for a freelance Oromo transcriptionist for a remote, paid contract assignment. This opportunity is open to qualified contributors around the world.

What the Role Involves

You will work on 2-speaker, channel-separated audio files in Oromo. Each recording contains two clearly distinct speakers, and the task is to produce a clean transcript in the correct sequence, with speaker tags and timestamps.

Core Duties

  • Carefully listen to Oromo audio with two speakers on separate channels.
  • Convert every spoken word into accurate written text.
  • Mark each turn as Speaker 1 or Speaker 2 according to the corresponding channel.
  • Place a timestamp at the beginning of every speaker turn in HH:MM:SS format.
  • Keep the transcript in proper order with no unexplained omissions or gaps.

Requirements

  • Near-native or native-level fluency in Oromo, both spoken and written.
  • Strong Oromo writing ability, including spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Comfort working on your own while meeting daily output goals.
  • A computer and reliable internet access are required.
  • You should be available for at least 4 hours per day.
  • Previous transcription experience is helpful but not mandatory; every applicant must clear a qualification test.

Quality Expectations

  • Delivered transcripts must maintain a word error rate of 5% or lower.
  • Speaker labeling must be exact, with Speaker 1 always aligned to Channel 1.
  • Work is checked continuously, and feedback is shared quickly.
  • Submissions that miss the quality standard will be sent back for revision.

Project Details

  • Language: Oromo
  • Work type: Manual audio transcription
  • Commitment: About 4 hours per day or more, with a remote and flexible schedule
  • Start: As soon as the applicant is qualified; onboarding happens on a rolling basis

Application Process

Applicants must submit their details through the company platform and complete a short qualification exercise: a 5-minute Oromo audio transcription sample. Candidates who succeed in the test are onboarded right away and given production work.

Equal Opportunity

The employer welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and is an equal opportunity employer.
